Putin and Macron had a telephone conversation for the first time since 2022

Vladimir Putin and Emmanuel Macron held a telephone conversation for the first time since 2022, during which they discussed the situation in the Middle East and Russia’s war against Ukraine. This was reported by the press service of the Kremlin.

During the discussion of the Ukrainian issue, Putin, according to the Kremlin, called the war “a direct consequence of the policies of Western states”, which “ignored Russia’s security interests, created an anti-Russian bridgehead in Ukraine”, and now “are prolonging hostilities” by providing Ukraine with weapons.

He also reiterated his position regarding possible agreements, stressing that they should be “comprehensive and long-term”, take into account “new territorial realities” and “eliminate the root causes of the Ukrainian crisis”.

The Elysee Palace reported that the conversation between the presidents of France and Russia lasted more than two hours. The leaders discussed not only the situation in Ukraine, but also the Iranian nuclear program.

“President Emmanuel Macron emphasized France’s unwavering support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine. He called for the establishment of a ceasefire and the start of negotiations as soon as possible.” – they told in the Elysee Palace.

In addition to Ukraine, the leaders also discussed the development of the situation in the Middle East, in particular, the confrontation between Iran and Israel and the US strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities. The last time Putin and Macron spoke was on September 11, 2022. After the conversation with Putin, Macron called Volodymyr Zelenskyi.
