Putin signed a bill that determines the write-off of loans of up to 10 million rubles for participants in the war against Ukraine

Vladimir Putin signed a law that allows writing off overdue loans of up to 10 million rubles for citizens who sign a contract to participate in the war against Ukraine. This was reported by the Russian news agency TASS.

The legislative initiative was adopted by the State Duma of Russia on November 19, passing the second and third reading immediately.

The document specifies that the following categories of citizens will have the right to write off debts:

  • mobilized;
  • conscripts;
  • servicemen who entered into a contract after December 1, 2024 for a period of more than one year.

The law provides that the debt to be written off must be formalized before the conclusion of the contract. Thus, it will be possible to write off only overdue loans taken before December 1, 2024. New loans or debts incurred after the conclusion of the contract are not subject to benefits.

This initiative is part of measures aimed at encouraging Russian citizens to participate in hostilities against Ukraine. At the same time, it is criticized by analysts who consider it an attempt to exert economic pressure and manipulate socially vulnerable sections of the population.
