Record growth of net income of the restaurant business in Ukraine

In 2023, the net income of the restaurant business in Ukraine reached 31.6 billion hryvnias, which is 120% more than in 2022 and 26% higher than in 2021. Such dynamics indicate the recovery of the industry after the crisis years and the active development of demand for gastronomic services. Kyiv retained leadership in the regional section with an income of more than 23 billion hryvnias, which is 72% of the total income of the country’s restaurant sector. More than 1,200 companies work in the capital, which confirms its status as the gastronomic center of Ukraine. Dnipropetrovsk Oblast took second place with an income of 1.6 billion hryvnias, while Lviv Oblast came in third with an income of 1.4 billion hryvnias.

The field of restaurant business in 2023 showed a significant increase in the number of participants. The number of active companies increased by 30%: from 2.6 thousand in 2022 to more than 3.5 thousand in 2023. There was also a two-fold increase in the number of registered individual entrepreneurs, which reached 19,400. The greatest activity of FOP registrations in this area was recorded in Kyiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Lviv and Kyiv regions.

The revenues of companies in Kyiv increased by more than two and a half times, reaching 23 billion hryvnias in 2023 compared to 8.9 billion hryvnias in 2022. Dnipropetrovsk region took second place in terms of net income, which in 2023 amounted to 1.6 billion hryvnias, which is 5% of the total income of the industry. More than 200 restaurant business companies are actively operating in this region.

Lviv region took the third position in terms of revenues, which in 2023 reached almost 1.4 billion hryvnias, i.e. 4.4% of the total figure. More than 400 enterprises of the gastronomic sector work in this region.

A significant increase in revenues was also recorded in the Kherson region, where they increased by 122% and amounted to 26.8 million hryvnias, which became possible thanks to the liberation of part of the territories.

Donetsk region shows the highest increase in income, where the indicator increased by 570%. However, it is worth noting that these data are based on the reporting of only three companies that submitted official information.

As for the key players of the market, the leader remains the McDonald’s chain, whose net income in 2023 exceeded 12.9 billion hryvnias, which is almost 40% of the total income of the industry. In second place were KFC franchisees with a total income of 2.5 billion hryvnias. Other popular brands include Puzata Khata (951 million hryvnias), Domino’s Pizza (369 million hryvnias), Sushiya (322 million hryvnias) and Salateira (289 million hryvnias).

The Tarrantino Family restaurant chain stood out in particular, which received almost 138 million hryvnias in net income, and its growth compared to 2022 was a record 310%.
