Romanian court rejects Simion’s request to annul presidential election results

The Constitutional Court of Romania rejected the request to annul the results of the vote submitted by the presidential candidate George Simion. About this informs The Guardian.
Although Simion had previously conceded defeat, he later contested the election results by filing an official protest.
“Just as Celina Georgescu was removed and the election (last year) was annulled, we will challenge the election of Nikushor Dan for the same reasons.”, – said Simion.
The politician, known for his pro-Russian rhetoric, has repeatedly accused electoral bodies of fraud, but has not provided any evidence to support these claims. As a result, the Constitutional Court unanimously rejected his claim due to lack of proper justification.
We will remind that the second round of re-voting in the presidential elections in Romania took place on May 18. A repeat vote was called after the Constitutional Court annulled the results of the first round in December 2024. After processing 99.94% of the ballots, Nikushor Dan won with 53.69% of the votes. His opponent George Simion received 46.31% of support.
Even before the official announcement of the results, Simion publicly declared that he would not accept defeat and called on his supporters to protest on May 19, Monday, to “not allow the victory to be stolen from the Romanian people.”
