Russia and Ukraine must make concessions during negotiations to end the war: Marco Rubio

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio emphasized, that the end of the war between Russia and Ukraine should take place through negotiations, in which both sides should make concessions.
“First of all, let me say: We think what Putin did was terrible. The invasion of another country, the atrocities he committed – he did terrible things.”, – noted Rubio.
At the same time, he emphasized that there was a certain “dishonesty” from the beginning, as the American administration created the impression that Ukraine would be able to defeat Russia. He criticized the previous strategy of supporting Kyiv, calling it funding of a “protracted stalemate” that only increases suffering.
Rubio pointed out that the war is setting Ukraine back decades – the energy infrastructure is being destroyed, and a significant number of Ukrainians are forced to leave the country forever.
“It’s their future, and in that sense, it’s at risk.”– he added.
The Secretary of State also noted that, in Donald Trump’s opinion, this conflict is protracted and must be stopped. He emphasized that this requires negotiations involving compromises on both sides.
According to him, there is a complex process of diplomatic efforts ahead, but in order to achieve peace, “each of the parties has to give up something”, and this will require time. Rubio also emphasized that Trump is aware of the huge price that both Ukraine and Russia are paying for this war, so the main goal is to end it as soon as possible.
