“Russia is waging a massive sabotage campaign across Europe that threatens the stability of the world order”: Richard Moore and Bill Burns

Russia is waging a massive sabotage campaign across Europe that threatens the stability of the Cold War-era world order. This was announced by the head of British MI6 intelligence, Richard Moore, and the head of the CIA, Bill Burns articles for Financial Times.

Intelligence leaders stressed that their countries faced an unprecedented level of threats. Special emphasis was placed on the fact that they continue to cooperate in order to stop Russian subversive activities aimed at dividing European countries and creating information disinformation.

“We continue to work together to disrupt the reckless sabotage campaign across Europe by Russian intelligence and its cynical use of technology to spread lies and disinformation to drive a wedge between us.”, Moore and Burns said.

The intelligence services have joined forces in the fight against Russian aggression and Putin’s war against Ukraine, stressing that their goal is to protect the sovereignty and independence of Ukraine.

“Putin will not be able to destroy the sovereignty and independence of Ukraine. Russia’s actions are a gross violation of the UN Charter and international norms. We will continue to help our brave, determined Ukrainian intelligence partners. We are proud of this and admire the resilience, innovation and zeal of Ukraine.” – the article emphasizes.

The text pays special attention to how the war in Ukraine became a field for the application of advanced technologies. For the first time, open source software was used on the battlefield in combination with commercial and military satellite imagery, unmanned aerial vehicles, sophisticated cyber attacks and information operations.

“The war in Ukraine was the first to combine open source software with advanced battlefield technology, using commercial and military satellite imagery, drones, high- and low-sophistication cyberwarfare, social media, open-source intelligence, information operations, and as well as human and radio intelligence – at such incredible speed and on such a scale.” – says the publication.

Moore and Burns also emphasized that, in addition to the Russian threat, China, which was called “the main geopolitical and intelligence challenge of the 21st century,” and the revival of the ISIS terrorist organization are serious challenges.
