Russia recognizes its first foreign minister as a foreign agent

Former Foreign Minister Andriy Kozyrev was officially included in the list of so-called foreign agents in Russia. The Ministry of Justice stated that the ex-government official allegedly spread false information about political decisions and actions of the Russian government and army, as well as “interacts with foreign sites.”

“Opposed a special military operation (full-scale war) in Ukraine. Interacts with foreign sites, lives outside the Russian Federation.” – it is stated in the message of the department.

Andriy Kozyrev served as Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation in 1990–1996.

The updated register also included: public movement “Udmurtia against corruption”, Ukrainian journalist Daria Shchaslyva, former employee of the Federal Penitentiary Service in Moscow and human rights defender Anna Karetnikova, as well as literary critic Mykola Epple.

According to the ministry, all of these individuals spread false information about the actions of the Russian military. In the case of Daria Shchaslyva, it is also stated that she called for actions, the results of which could lead to a violation of the territorial integrity of the Russian Federation.

At the same time, the non-profit organization “Glasnost Defense Fund”, which was liquidated in 2015, was excluded from the register of foreign agents.
