Russian military aircraft entered the air defense zone of South Korea

On March 15, South Korea raised its fighter jets in response to the entry of several Russian warplanes into the country’s air defense identification zone in the East Sea. About this informs Yonhap.

The incident happened around 09:20 local time (02:20 Kyiv time). The exact number of Russian aircraft and their models are not disclosed, but it is known that they successively entered the air defense zone, and later exited in its eastern and northern parts. In response, South Korea sent its fighter jets.

The Joint Chiefs of Staff noted that Russian planes did not violate South Korean airspace, and the incident occurred during exercises. The air defense zone is not part of territorial airspace, but is designated for foreign aircraft to identify themselves, which helps avoid accidental collisions.

We will remind that on February 7, the Russian government plane, which flew over the Gulf of Finland, spent several minutes in the airspace of Finland.
