SBU conducted Operation “Cobweb”, hitting 41 Russian strategic aircraft

The Security Service of Ukraine conducted an operation called “Spider”, in the framework of which drone strikes were carried out on four military airfields on the territory of Russia. According to preliminary data, 41 Russian military aircraft of strategic aviation were affected, and the total damage is estimated at about 7 billion dollars. About this informs SBU press office.

The operation required complex logistics: first the FPV drones were delivered to Russia, then mobile wooden houses, under the roofs of which the drones were hidden. At the specified moment, the roofs opened remotely, and the drones went to their targets – Russian bombers.

Containers with modified panels that opened on command. This is the first time in history that strategic aviation – the carriers of nuclear weapons – suffered a devastating drone strike right on their own bases. The operation is already considered a significant achievement in the history of sabotage and war.

In total, according to available information, 41 strategic and military transport aircraft of the Russian Armed Forces at four bases were affected. Some of the drones worked with automatic guidance to the target, and the results of their attacks will be determined with the help of satellite images.

A group of SBU agents delivered 150 small attack drones and 300 ammunition to the Russian Federation. 116 aircraft took off. Management was carried out through Russian telecommunications networks using auto-providing. Several mobile launch points were set up near the strategic aviation bases of the Russian Federation.

The attack took place during the day, at a short distance, in the deep rear. Russian bases were covered by powerful anti-aircraft defense – anti-aircraft missiles, means of radio-electronic warfare and patrols. However, the enemy expected night attacks by large drones and did not foresee the attack of small quadcopters during the day.

The attack on the Tu-95 “Olenya” base was particularly effective, where the drones accurately hit the refueled fuel tanks – a large part of the aircraft completely burned up. An operation of this level – in terms of scale, effect and technological implementation – has no analogues in the world. It is especially important that all SBU agents successfully returned to Ukraine without casualties.

The consequences of the operation include the destruction of military equipment worth billions of dollars, the destruction of strategic aircraft that Russia does not produce, a significant weakening of the enemy’s strike capabilities, as well as the need for Russia to spend significantly on strengthening the defense of its own bases.
