Screening of Ukrainian legislation for compliance with EU law in the energy sector has started in Brussels

An official screening of Ukrainian legislation for compliance with European Union law in the energy sector has begun in Brussels. About this informs press service of the Ministry of Energy.
The delegation from Ukraine is headed by Deputy Prime Minister-Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration – Minister of Justice of Ukraine Olha Stefanishyna. Its members included Deputy Ministers of Energy of Ukraine Roman Andarak and Mykola Kolisnyk.
During the event, representatives of state bodies and energy companies presented the current state of implementation of EU legal acts in such areas as energy efficiency, the gas market, security of supply, renewable energy and trans-European energy networks. The screening is an important stage in the negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the European Union and will determine further steps regarding the implementation of the EU acquis within the framework of Chapters 15 “Energy” and 21 “Trans-European Networks”.
The Ukrainian side outlined the key challenges in the process of implementing European norms and informed about the need for support from the EU. Representatives of the European Commission emphasized the importance of the energy topic in the negotiations, as it covers the issues of market liberalization and guaranteeing energy security. Ukraine’s significant progress in the fields of gas, electricity, market structure and strengthening of institutional capacity was also noted, which was made possible thanks to long-term support from the European Union.
Roman Andarak emphasized the special symbolism of the fact that on the eve of the screening, two draft laws were registered in the Verkhovna Rada: “On amendments to some laws of Ukraine regarding the implementation of the norms of European law on the integration of energy markets, increasing the security of supply and competitiveness in the energy sector” and “On infrastructure projects in the energy sector that are of public interest”.
“We have already submitted to the European side a draft law on the integration of energy markets for assessment of its compliance with European legislation, and we expect that the relevant conclusion will contribute to its adoption by the Verkhovna Rada. The joint development of our energy markets in accordance with EU legislation and the principles of solidarity has already proven its effectiveness in strengthening resistance to external threats,” – noted Roman Andarak.
