Three lines of fortifications in the country
The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, previously stated that three 2,000 km long lines of fortifications are being built in Ukraine. The Cabinet of Ministers allocated billions of hryvnias for the implementation of this project.

Challenges of construction of fortifications in the Kharkiv region
Against the background of the offensive of the Russian invaders in the north of the Kharkiv region, which began on May 10, 2024, the question of the construction of fortifications became acute. On May 12, Ukrainian military officer Denys Yaroslavsky reported that street fighting had begun in the border town of Vovchansk. According to him, the first line of fortifications and mines were not there, due to which the enemy freely entered the gray zone. He also noted that the 125th brigade of the Armed Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine had left its positions, and the fortifications were incomplete.
Reaction to problems with fortifications
The 125th separate ground defense brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine stated that due to the aggravation of the situation in the Kharkiv region, informational provocations appeared. At the end of May, a case was opened against the command of the 125th brigade about the abandonment of positions.
Tamaz Gambarashvili, the head of Vovchanska MBA, noted that the fortifications around the city were loosely built. The head of the Kharkiv OVA Oleg Sinegubov instructed to prepare a public report on the construction of fortifications in the region.
