Sibiga and Borrell agree on details of €35bn loan to Ukraine

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Andriy Sybiga, had a telephone conversation with EU High Representative Josep Borrell, during which he discussed significant progress in providing Ukraine with a loan worth EUR 35 billion. Financing is planned to be provided through the use of frozen Russian assets. About this Sybig reported on his page in the social network Kh.

According to him, together with Borrell, they also discussed further joint steps in this direction. In addition, the Ukrainian minister was invited to the meeting of the EU Council of Ministers on Foreign Affairs, which will be held on October 14.

Earlier it became known that the Council of the EU agreed to provide Ukraine with macro-financial assistance in the amount of 35 billion euros, and also created a new mechanism for repayment of loans in the amount of up to 45 billion euros provided by the EU and the G7 countries. According to the decision of the European Council, Russian assets will remain frozen until the end of the war and full compensation for the damages caused to Ukraine.

At the G7 summit held in June 2024 in Italy, the G7 countries agreed to allocate about 50 billion US dollars to Ukraine, which will be repaid from the profits received from frozen Russian assets in the EU and other jurisdictions.
