Tesla is testing fully driverless Model Y electric cars

In recent days, Tesla has been testing fully self-driving Model Y electric cars on the streets of Austin, Texas. About this reported Tesla CEO Elon Musk.

According to him, the testing started a month earlier than the planned schedule and passed without accidents. Musk also noted that the first fully unmanned Model Y will be available to customers next month. Earlier, at the beginning of May, Tesla demonstrated how an electric car leaves the factory territory on its own.

These developments are positive for the company, particularly in the context of the planned launch of the Cybercab robot taxi service, which, according to Bloomberg, should launch on June 12, 2025. During road tests of the Model Y, the passenger seats were occupied by company employees, while no one was behind the wheel.

Tesla first unveiled its Cybercab robot taxi in October 2024 at a special event that also featured the Optimus humanoid robot. The Cybercab is designed for two passengers, has no steering wheel and pedals, and the cost of the car will be less than $30,000.

As for the possible launch of the service in June, this date has been around for some time. In January 2025, Elon Musk himself announced plans to launch in June, and in April Tesla expanded internal testing of the Cybercab among employees in Austin.
