The Embassy of Ukraine in Poland reacted to the blockade at the Shehyni-Medyka checkpoint

The Embassy of Ukraine in the Republic of Poland made a statement regarding the situation that developed on the Ukrainian-Polish border due to the protest action of Polish farmers at the Shegyny-Medyk checkpoint.
U statement, published on the Embassy’s official Facebook page, emphasizes that this day is special for Ukraine, as the nation commemorates the millions of innocent victims of the Holodomor, one of the greatest tragedies in human history.
“Today we commemorate the millions of innocent victims of the Holodomor, one of the worst tragedies in human history. This tragedy reminds us that limiting access to food and neglecting the principles of solidarity can have catastrophic consequences.
Unfortunately, Ukraine, which once experienced this artificially created famine and which today suffers from Russian aggression, is also forced to fight for the preservation of its ways of solidarity with its Western partners. – said in the statement.
Ukrainian diplomats drew attention to the fact that the Holodomor is a reminder of the catastrophic consequences of restricting access to food and neglecting the principles of solidarity.
The Ukrainian side called blocking the border precisely on the day of commemoration of the victims of the Holodomor “a particularly painful paradox”, stressing that such actions are untimely and cause deep pain.
The Embassy of Ukraine warns that blocking the border harms the economic interests of both countries and at the same time may contribute to the realization of the plans of those who seek to inflame tensions between the Ukrainian and Polish peoples.
Diplomats called on the Polish side to show solidarity, taking into account the importance of maintaining good neighborly relations.
“Poland, which well understands the significance of historical traumas, should be an example of solidarity. Only joint efforts and the search for compromises will allow us to avoid misunderstandings, ensure the interests of both sides, and preserve the memory of the tragedies of the past,” – emphasized in the Embassy.
The protests of Polish farmers arose because of internal problems that do not concern Ukraine. However, their actions on this symbolic day for the Ukrainian people were perceived as a show of disrespect and an inappropriate provocation, which caused concern in diplomatic circles.
The Ukrainian side expressed hope for a constructive dialogue and a quick solution to the situation in order to avoid further tension in bilateral relations.
