French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barro said that European countries are preparing a new, 17th package of sanctions against Russia. These restrictions are planned to be agreed with the US if Moscow continues to refuse to cease fire in Ukraine. About this informs Le Figaro.
“We Europeans support this US initiative by preparing the 17th package of sanctions. Yesterday I assured Lindsey Graham that we will try to coordinate these two packages of sanctions both in terms of content and timing.” Barro said, referring to the Republican senator who this week took the initiative to strengthen American sanctions against Russia.
Barro also emphasized that, in his opinion, Russian President Vladimir Putin remains the only obstacle on the way to establishing peace in Ukraine, while Kyiv, according to the minister, has fulfilled its part of the agreements. After a meeting with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Barro spoke positively about the progress of the negotiations, describing them as “frank” and confirming the close partnership between Europe and the US.
“We had a frank exchange of views that allowed us to closely coordinate actions, as well as confirm the commonality of our goals regarding regional and international crises, as we want to act together.” he added.
