EU and the world

The EU, through Germany, did not approve the 14th package of sanctions against Russia

According to the publication Politic, the European Union country failed to make progress on a new package of restrictive measures against Russia over Germany’s veto. A proposal to ban EU countries from re-exporting Russian liquefied natural gas from EU ports and to finance the construction of LNG terminals in the Arctic and the Baltic remained rejected due to Berlin’s disagreement.

The European Commission has opened talks with the German government in an attempt to try to lift the blockade. Diplomats express irritation that Hungary was previously accused of the blockade, but now it has come from Germany

One European official noted that Germany has recently been behaving “like the new Hungary”, also delaying the implementation of new sanctions, similar to Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s government in Budapest. The new EU sanctions package should end Russia’s ability to circumvent existing restrictions. At the same time, Germany fears that German companies may also fall under sanctions. Therefore, it proposes either to exclude this norm or to limit its application in a certain list of goods.
