The European Commission proposes €100 billion for Ukraine in the draft of the new EU budget

The European Commission proposes to include 100 billion euros in the EU budget for 2028-2034 for the Ukraine Facility financial support program. This was announced by the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, during a press conference after the meeting of the EC collegium. transmits DW.
“We are allocating 100 billion euros for Ukraine. We are doubling the General Fund for Ukraine Aid – to support recovery, resilience and its path to EU membership.” – said von der Leyen.
She also reminded that after the preliminary revision of the current budget, 50 billion euros were already provided for Ukraine’s needs.
Evaluating the general concept of the new EU budget, von der Leyen emphasized:
“This is a 2 trillion budget for a New Era. A budget that meets Europe’s ambitions, Europe’s challenges, that strengthens our independence. A budget that is bigger, smarter and clearer. It is a budget that meets the interests of our citizens, our businesses, our partners and our future.”
According to her, this will be the most ambitious budget ever proposed by the European Commission.
“It is more strategic, more flexible and more transparent“, said the head of the European Commission.
Separately, von der Leyen announced an initiative to provide 200 billion euros for the Global Europe instrument, which she said represents a 75% increase in funding to ensure the EU’s commitments in a global context, in particular to support enlargement.
“This is not just a political goal; it is a strategic investment in the stability and prosperity of Europe. That is why we are opening the entire toolkit of “Global Europe” to candidate countries – not only technical assistance, but also support for reforms and investments, backed up by resources.” von der Leyen stressed.
After the publication of this proposal of the European Commission, the final decision on the new seven-year budget must be taken by the European Parliament and the European Council.
