The European Commissioner called for the allocation of 100 billion euros for defense due to the Russian threat

The European Commissioner for Defense and Space, Andrius Kubilius, proposed to allocate about 100 billion euros for defense in the next seven-year budget of the European Union. About this informs Political.
Kubilius’ initiative provides for a significant increase in funding compared to the current seven-year EU budget, which exceeds 1 trillion euros, of which only 10 billion were earmarked for defense. He called his proposal “ambitious” and explained that the EU’s priorities changed in response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
“We must be prepared for possible Russian aggression. If we are defeated in Ukraine, the risk of Russian military aggression against EU member states will increase.” he declared.
Kubilyus emphasized the need to support Ukraine for its victory in the war. He also emphasized that Russia continues to wage a hybrid war, and drew attention to the lack of preparedness of the EU to protect “people’s consciousness”, as opposed to traditional defense.
To revive the defense industry, which has been in a state of stagnation for many years, the EU needs significant investment. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has previously called for a 500 billion euro increase in European defense spending over the next decade.
