The European Parliament called on EU countries to increase the volume of arms supplies to Ukraine

The head of the defense committee of the European Parliament, Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann, called on the governments of Germany and other European Union countries to increase the volume of arms supplies to Ukraine. informs ZDF. Strack-Zimmermann emphasized the importance of an immediate increase in military support to deter Russian aggression and ensure security in Europe.

Strack-Zimmermann also drew attention to the need to improve the efficiency of the American F-16 fighter jets recently transferred to Ukraine. She called on Western countries to take additional measures to ensure the maximum combat readiness of these aircraft.

“This is an important signal and effective support that the F-16s are finally being delivered”, – said the politician. She emphasized that these aircraft can significantly strengthen Ukraine’s defense capabilities and help repel air attacks.

Strack-Zimmermann said that Europe cannot afford to give up in the fight for Ukraine’s security. “All states, not only Germany, should do everything possible to protect Ukraine and give it the opportunity to continue to protect itself,” she stressed.

According to Strack-Zimmermann, support for Ukraine should include both the strengthening of air defense units and the supply of Taurus cruise missiles, regardless of the position of the German chancellery. She emphasized that not only the security of Ukraine depends on this, but also the stability of the entire European continent.

At the end of July, Ukraine received the first F-16 fighters from Western partners. Although the exact number of aircraft remains unknown, The Times reports that Ukraine received six aircraft from the Netherlands, while The Economist claims the first ten F-16 fighters. Ten more aircraft are expected to arrive in Ukraine by the end of the year, and the rest of the promised aircraft will be delivered in batches in 2025.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyi noted that the available number of F-16s is still insufficient to fully meet defense needs, but Ukraine expects additional deliveries from its partners. He emphasized that this support is critical for strengthening the country’s defense capabilities and successfully resisting aggression.
