The European Union is introducing new rules for entering the Schengen zone, which will come into effect on November 10 and will apply to all non-EU citizens, including Ukrainians. About this informs press service of the Cabinet of Ministers.

Innovations include the introduction of a new IT system of border control – Entry/Exit System (EES). This system will automatically record all border crossings by foreigners when entering and leaving Schengen countries.

The main provisions of the new rules:

Upon first entry, travelers will be required to provide biometric data, including fingerprints and a photo of their face for identification.

The EES system will collect and store biometric data for three years, after which passport stamps will no longer be required and registration will be done through self-service terminals.

For each subsequent border crossing, it will be necessary to scan the passport in the terminal.

Refusal to provide biometric data will result in a ban on entry.

The EES system will be implemented in all EU countries, with the exception of Cyprus and Ireland, where the traditional stamping procedure will remain. In addition, it will operate in four non-EU Schengen countries: Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland.
