The European Union launches a project to modernize tanks

In the European Union, the implementation of the FMBTech (Technologies for Existing and Future Main Battle Tanks) project, which is aimed at the modernization of main battle tanks in accordance with the requirements of modern hybrid warfare, has officially begun. About this reported the Thales company, which is the coordinator of the project.

26 participants from 13 EU countries and Norway are involved in FMBTech. The project is financed by the funds of the European Defense Fund (EDF) and contributions from the consortium members. The total budget is 19 million euros.

For three years, the participants will work on the creation of modular and adaptive solutions to increase the combat effectiveness of tanks in difficult combat conditions. The goal of FMBTech is the development of mobile, smart and efficient tanks capable of compensating for the technical backwardness of the existing fleet of armored vehicles in the EU and Norway.

The initiative aims to increase the efficiency, safety and economic feasibility of both existing and future models of battle tanks, ensuring their key role in combat operations and the transition to fifth-generation tanks.

Project participants include: Thales Six GTS France (France), Arquus (France), C&V Consulting (Belgium), CY4GATE (Italy), Environics (Finland), Eight Bells Hellas (Greece), GMV Aerospace and Defense (Spain), Guardiaris Racunalniske Applications in Simulacije (Slovenia), Hensoldt France (France), ISD Aerospace (Ireland), MBDA France (France), MSM Land Systems (Slovakia), KNDS France (France), Ośrodek Badawczo-rzowoży Urządzeń Mechanicznych Obrum (Poland), Politecnico di Milano (Italy) and others.
