“The ICRC continues to show an “ostrich” position, because it cannot ensure the protection of the rights of Ukrainian prisoners of war”: Lubinets

Recently, it has become more and more obvious that the Russian military does not shy away from brutal actions against Ukrainian prisoners of war, in particular the execution of those who surrender. Similar cases receive confirmation not only from law enforcement agencies of Ukraine, but also from international organizations that record these violations.
The Commissioner for Human Rights of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Dmytro Lubinets, said on the air of “Edynykh Noviny”:
“Increasingly, Russian soldiers are killing Ukrainian soldiers who surrender themselves as prisoners. This is recorded by both law enforcement agencies and international organizations.
All such public executions of Ukrainian prisoners of war are war crimes. We demand an effective response from the international community, including new arrest warrants for criminals from the ICC.
The ICRC continues to show an “ostrich” position — the organization cannot ensure the protection of the rights of Ukrainian prisoners of war.”
The Ombudsman emphasized that with each new case it becomes more and more obvious that the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is unable to effectively protect the rights of Ukrainian prisoners of war. He noted that, unfortunately, this organization continues to show a passive attitude towards the protection of prisoners, which causes deep disappointment.
Lubinets emphasized that all murders of Ukrainian prisoners are unequivocal war crimes. He called on the international community to take immediate action and demanded a strong response from the International Criminal Court (ICC), including new arrest warrants for the perpetrators.
Such criticism from the Ukrainian authorities only emphasizes the need for stronger international control and intervention to stop these crimes and ensure justice for the victims.
