The number of new fraud cases in Ukraine has decreased: Opendatabot

The number of fraud cases, which had previously been steadily increasing, in August 2024 showed the lowest rate for the current year. This is evidenced data, published by the “Opendatabot” service.
Since the beginning of 2024, 51,992 criminal proceedings related to fraud have been opened, which is 13% less compared to the same period in 2023. Such a decrease in the number of new cases may indicate an improvement in law enforcement or changes in the way crimes are recorded.
At the beginning of the year, the number of new proceedings remained consistently high. On average, more than 8,000 new criminal cases were registered every month. However, since May, this indicator has started to decrease. In June and July, the number of new proceedings decreased by 1.4 times. From June to August, this decline became particularly noticeable: in August, only 2,980 new cases were recorded, which is almost three times less than at the beginning of the year.
Interestingly, despite the overall decrease in the number of new fraud cases, the number of cases that reached court increased. In 2024, there were 12,572 such cases, which is 24% of all open proceedings. For comparison, in 2023, only 14% of cases reached the court, which indicates an improvement in the efficiency of judicial bodies or greater activity in the investigation and prosecution of the guilty.
