The Pope spoke about the elections in the United States, calling to choose the “lesser evil”

Pope Francis has criticized the US presidential candidates for their positions on abortion and immigration, calling both policies “anti-life”. He urged American Catholics to choose the “lesser evil” in the upcoming elections. writes edition of The Hill.
“Both are against life, either the one who expels migrants or the one who kills babies”, – said Francis.
Although the Pope did not name Donald Trump and Kamala Harris, he spoke clearly about two key issues that are important to the Catholic Church and relevant in the US elections: abortion and migration.
Pope Francis constantly puts the issue of supporting migrants at the center of his activities and regularly speaks on this topic. Although he supports the church’s teaching against abortion, he does not emphasize it as strongly as his predecessors. Francis emphasized that migration is a right mentioned in the Holy Scriptures and that ignoring the call to help strangers is a “grave sin”. At the same time, he spoke directly about abortions.
“To have an abortion is to kill a person. You may like the word or not, but it kills. We must see that clearly.”, – he emphasized.
When asked what voters should do at polling stations, Pope Francis reminded of the civic duty to vote.
“You should vote and choose the lesser evil. Who is the lesser evil, a woman or a man? I don’t know. Everyone in their conscience should think and do it.” he said.
Pope Francis has also previously criticized the harsh treatment of migrants arriving in Europe via the Mediterranean Sea, saying that refusing to help them is a grave sin.
