The Portuguese Foreign Ministry summoned the charge d’affaires of Russia due to damage to its embassy in Kyiv

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Portugal summoned Russia’s Chargé d’affaires in Lisbon in connection with the damage to the Portuguese embassy in Kyiv during a Russian missile attack on December 20.

Portuguese Foreign Minister Paulo Rangel stressed that the attack, which damaged a diplomatic institution, required a strong diplomatic response. Damage was relatively minor: broken windows and damaged doors. There are no casualties.
In addition to the Portuguese embassy, the diplomatic missions of Albania, Argentina, Montenegro, Palestine and North Macedonia were also damaged. According to Paulo Rangel, several embassies are located in the same building.
The spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Heorhiy Tyhiy, emphasized that these attacks are barbaric attacks on diplomatic institutions that violate all international rules and cross red lines.
“Windows, doors, fragments of the ceiling were broken in the premises. These are barbaric attacks on diplomatic institutions, you know that this is a violation of all possible red lines and international rules everywhere in the world”, he said.
