The President of Mexico proposes to rename the United States to “Mexico America”

The President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, responded to the proposal of the President-elect of the United States, Donald Trump, to return the Panama Canal under American control and change its name. In response, she suggested renaming the United States to “Mexican America.” About this informs The Guardian.

The president showed a map of the world from 1607 to emphasize that the name “Gulf of Mexico” has historical roots and was used even before the United States was founded. She jokingly suggested that “Mexican America” would be a good name for a part of the US, adding sarcastically, “Sounds great, doesn’t it?” At the same time, she expressed hope for good relations with Trump.

Earlier, Trump said that he plans to change the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the “Gulf of America with a beautiful ring”, explaining that Mexico should stop the flow of migrants to the United States. He also noted that the southern neighbor of the United States is controlled by drug cartels. Sheinbaum answered this briefly: “In Mexico, the people rule.”

Also, on the first day of his presidency, Trump promised to introduce tariffs on all goods from Mexico, Canada and China, citing the need to combat the entry of drugs into the United States.
