The President of Portugal announced the dissolution of parliament and the appointment of early elections

Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Souza announced the dissolution of parliament, expressing no confidence in the government led by Luis Montenegro. About this informs RTP.
The president noted that after the dissolution of the parliament, early elections are scheduled for May 18, a date supported by the majority of political parties. The decision was made after a meeting of the State Council, a consultative body whose participation is mandatory for such decisions in accordance with the constitution.
Portugal’s center-right government, led by Prime Minister Luiz Montenegro, has been officially dismissed following a conflict of interest scandal. 142 opposition deputies voted for this decision, while 88 spoke against it.
The political crisis arose because of the contracts of a consulting firm owned by the prime minister’s family with private companies. This led to accusations of a conflict of interest. Montenegro rejected the accusations, saying during parliamentary hearings that any suspicions against him were “insinuations”.
