The SBU has exposed a high-ranking official of the State Tax Service of Kyiv for corruption

The investigators found out that the director of the Kyiv company, which is engaged in the wholesale trade of solid, liquid and gaseous fuels.

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has exposed the acting deputy head of the Main Department of the State Tax Service in Kyiv for corruption. According to the case file, the official demanded an illegal benefit from the capital’s entrepreneurs, informs website of the department.

It is documented that the official received bribes from the director of a Kyiv company engaged in the wholesale trade of solid, liquid and gaseous fuels. In exchange for a monetary reward, the official promised to grant licenses for the sale of fuel. The official involved an acquaintance to communicate with the entrepreneur and transfer the bribe.

The SBU documented the receipt of the first part of the illegal benefit and detained the official together with the intermediary during the transfer of the second tranche. Both detainees were charged with suspicion under Part 3 of Art. 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (acceptance of an offer, promise or receipt of an illegal benefit by an official).

Currently, the issue of choosing a preventive measure is being resolved. Investigative actions aimed at identifying and bringing to justice all involved persons are being conducted. Perpetrators face up to 10 years in prison with confiscation of property.

Comprehensive measures to eliminate the corruption scheme were carried out under the procedural guidance of the Office of the Prosecutor General and with the assistance of the State Tax Service.

According to Art. 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is considered innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until his guilt is proven in a legal manner and established by a court verdict.
