The State Bureau of Investigation announced the suspicion of a battalion commander from Donetsk region for organizing illegal payments.

Employees of the State Bureau of Investigation reported about the suspicion of the battalion commander of one of the military units stationed in the Donetsk region. He is suspected of organizing illegal payments to subordinates who were not actually in the war zone.

According to the investigation materials, from January 2023 to November 2024, the commander issued documents testifying to the alleged service of his subordinate in the area of ​​hostilities in Donetsk region. In fact, the woman was all this time in the territory of the Dnipropetrovsk region. Thanks to forged documents, she illegally received financial support and allowances provided for front-line servicemen. As a result, the state budget suffered losses of more than 800,000 hryvnias.

The battalion commander was charged with abuse of office, forgery and aiding and abetting military service evasion (part 2 of article 364, part 1 of article 366, part 5 of article 27, part 4 of article 409 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). His subordinate is suspected of evading military service and misappropriating large amounts of budget funds under martial law (Part 4 of Article 409, Part 4 of Article 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

Sanctions under these articles include up to 10 years of imprisonment. A civil lawsuit was also filed to compensate for the damages caused to the state. Procedural management in the case is carried out by the Donetsk specialized prosecutor’s office in the field of defense of the Eastern region.
