“The time has come”: Scholz called for speeding up peace efforts towards Ukraine

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz called for intensifying peace efforts to end the war in Ukraine. In his interview for ZDF, he emphasized on the need to speed up the peaceful settlement process.
“I believe that now is the time to discuss how we can get out of this war situation as soon as possible and achieve peace“, – noted Scholz.
The chancellor also expressed the opinion that the future peace conference regarding Ukraine should be held with the participation of Russia. He emphasized that he has a common position on this issue with the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi.
“Undoubtedly, there will be another peace summit”, – said Scholz, without specifying the specific dates of the event. He added that he agreed with Zelensky that Russia’s participation in the peace conference is a necessary condition.
In July, President Zelenskyi announced that a peace plan will be prepared by the end of November this year, which includes a series of negotiations with international partners to restore Ukraine’s territorial integrity. Later, on August 27, the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Andriy Yermak clarified that the specific date and place of the second Peace Summit will be announced after the agreement on the joint plan for the implementation of the Peace Formula.
