The United States called on the UN to support its resolution on the war in Ukraine

The United States urged the UN General Assembly to support its resolution marking the third anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, reject the proposed amendments and not vote on an alternative document drafted by Ukraine and the European Union. This is stated in the diplomatic note that the USA sent to the UN member states. informs Reuters.
Washington insists that their project is “visionary” and aimed at creating “real momentum for international peace and security.” At the same time, the document expresses regret for the victims of the “Russian-Ukrainian conflict”, but there is no mention of the full-scale invasion of Russia, its responsibility for the outbreak of the war, or the need to withdraw troops.
“Thanks to this resolution, Member States can give real impetus to international peace and security, the maintenance of which is the main purpose of the United Nations,” – says the statement of the American side.
Ukraine and the European Union have prepared an alternative draft resolution that repeats the previous decisions of the UN General Assembly, calling for an immediate cessation of hostilities and the complete withdrawal of Russian troops. Over the past month, Kyiv and Brussels have been negotiating with UN member states to gain support for this document.
Russia, for its part, proposed its own amendments to the American text, including a reference to the “elimination of the root causes” of the war.
