The United States officially closes 83% of USAID programs: Rubio

The United States is canceling 83% of USAID programs after a six-week review. About this announced US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

“The 5,200 contracts now being canceled spent tens of billions of dollars in a way that did not serve (and in some cases harmed) core US national interests.” – the message says.

Rubio specified that the remaining 18% of the programs (approximately 1,000 contracts) will be managed by the US State Department.

“Thank you to DOGE and our hardworking staff who have worked very hard to achieve this long overdue and historic reform.” – emphasized the state secretary.

It will be recalled that on January 21, US President Donald Trump decided to suspend the allocation of all American foreign aid for 90 days. This decision concerns, in particular, programs and projects for economic and humanitarian development implemented by USAID. Trump’s executive order stated that the direction of the United States’ foreign aid does not correspond to American interests and in many cases contradicts American values.
