In Ukraine, this was not an exception, and during the war events, many famous personalities came forward with their own positions and actions, although sometimes not at all as expected.

IA “FAKT” analyzed how Ukrainian stars behave in difficult times.

Voice in support

Many Ukrainian stars act as voices supporting the Ukrainian army and people in times of war. They actively make statements of support, perform charity concerts and raise funds for military needs. Their public speeches calling for unity and peace are of great importance to the morale of the nation. Including:

Jamala

She not only constantly performs at concerts abroad, but also supports her native country with her performances in Ukraine. Thanks to her efforts, more than 90 million dollars were transferred to help Ukrainians and the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Jamala recently took part in the Concert for Change in the Netherlands, and one of the most moving moments was her charity performance at the rehabilitation center in Kyiv for the military when she was pregnant. This symbolizes her boundless love for her native people and incredible strength of spirit.

Alyona Alyona
The famous Ukrainian rapper remained in Kyiv until recently, actively engaged in volunteer activities and financial assistance. She sincerely sought to support her compatriots, but only in April she reported that her efforts did not bring the desired result, and she could not ask Ukrainians for money.

Therefore, Alyona Alyona resumed her concert activities abroad to help the Armed Forces of Ukraine and ease her pain from losing her best man at the front. It is also important that, together with Jerry Heil, she made a huge contribution to Ukraine’s performance at Eurovision this year.

Vakarchuk traveled to the hottest spots, where he gave free concerts at metro stations and in destroyed cities of Ukraine. Currently, he continues to be actively involved in charity, helping the Armed Forces of Ukraine and holding concerts that bring significant fees for our military. His tireless work and sincere desire to help his native country do not leave indifferent millions of people both in Ukraine and abroad.

Max Barskikh
At the beginning of April, the Ukrainian singer joined the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and went to study.
“I wanted to do something, somehow help, support the spirit. I came to Kyiv, found one battalion, joined. But almost immediately the commander said that there were enough soldiers and sent me back. After that, I started giving concerts and being stronger in what I can be stronger in,” commented Barskykh.

It is worth noting that Max Barskikh belongs to the category of Ukrainian artists who successfully started their careers in the Russian Federation, however, after the start of the great war, the musician publicly expressed his support for his native country, banned the use of his creative works in Russia and now gives charity concerts all over the world and in Ukraine to help the Armed Forces and citizens.

Yulia Sanina (The Hardkiss)
It is also a vivid example of a patriotic star. At the beginning of the war, she stayed in Kyiv and did not leave, only after some time, after working in humanitarian funds, she began to give charity concerts and collect funds for the Armed Forces.

The singer has already held a hundred concerts in different countries, and Pivovarov’s team directs all the collected funds to the needs of our military.

These stories demonstrate how these and other Ukrainian artists united for the sake of their country, how each of them makes a significant contribution to the support of the Armed Forces and Ukrainians. Their courage, dedication and indomitable spirit inspire millions of people around the world, showing that true strength lies in unity and love for one’s country.

However, not all Ukrainian stars had an unambiguous position from the very beginning of the war. Some of them hesitated, did not know how to properly react to the events that suddenly changed their lives. However, over time, when the horrors of war became more apparent, many of them began to realize their responsibility to the people. Often these people, being in the center of attention, felt pressure from society. At first they may have felt that their support or condemnation might not have much effect, but when they saw the suffering of their people, they also felt a desire to help. Including:

Nastya Kamenskyi and Potap
A few days before Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Nastya Kamenskyi and Potap went on vacation to Spain with their mothers. They were criticized for leaving Ukraine at such a stressful time and not returning to Kyiv from vacation.

However, after some time abroad, the couple joined the pro-Ukrainian movement and began actively giving charity concerts, collecting humanitarian aid, sending clothes, food and money to their homeland, as well as conducting an information war. Recently, Nastya performed at the Latin American Music Awards with the hit song “Black Eyed Peas” and in Kaunas at the concert Vienybės iłsa (Strength for the sake of unity).

FROM MONA
The famous Ukrainian singer-dancer Dmytro Monatyk was in Barcelona with his family at the beginning of the war.
“My soul, like millions of people, has been torn apart all this time. First, from the brutal war in my beautiful country Ukraine. Secondly, from the fact that I was abroad when all this happened,” the singer wrote on social networks.

The voice of war: how Ukrainian stars behave in difficult timesAfter almost a year from abroad, he started helping Ukraine, organizing charity concerts and collecting humanitarian aid for Ukrainians. His music became a new voice of support and hope. He recently returned to Ukraine.

Svetlana Loboda
At the beginning of the war, the singer was silent, and the most she did was call to stop the war, but did not call the Russian Federation an enemy. Only a month after the war, she addressed her fans in the Telegram channel, accusing the Russian Federation of starting a full-scale military aggression on the territory of Ukraine.

Although Loboda was not very active in her musical career, she spent a lot of money to help Ukrainian refugees and purchase necessary things for the Armed Forces. She is also rebuilding her hometown, Irpin, at her own expense. Her contribution to helping Ukrainians showed that even in the most difficult times, you can find ways to support your people even outside of your main activity.

Oleg Vinnyk
The singer explained that even before the beginning of the Russian invasion, he went to Germany for treatment and was in Berlin. He did not know what to say to the Ukrainians and how to support them. According to the singer, he believed that no one would listen to him, because he was not in a country where the war was going on. However, almost a year later, Oleg Vinnyk started writing posts and publications in his social networks in support of Ukraine and refuting pro-Russian rumors.

Although he was not actively involved in philanthropy, his voice and support from abroad were also important to many Ukrainians, although some believe that he will not return to the stage in Ukraine.

Vera Brezhneva
The famous Ukrainian singer was silent for a long time and disappeared from the information space, but recently she returned to Ukraine for the first time after the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation. Vira presented her second Ukrainian-language composition in the last one and a half years, with which she showed her “inner mourning” and feelings. Returning to the capital was not an easy step for the singer, she came alone after her divorce from Konstantin Meladze.

Later, Vera went to Poland, where she began to actively help refugees, and currently she not only supports them financially, but also with her compassion, giving hope for a better future.
This path – from indecision to active citizenship – shows that everyone has the right to make choices and doubts, but it is important to find the strength to act. And it is thanks to such examples that we see how important every contribution and every sincere gesture of support is.

Unfortunately, in this difficult time, we watched with disappointment how some Ukrainian stars, who were once symbols of our culture and national pride, stopped supporting Ukraine, they left for the Russian Federation and stayed there to live. This is painful to realize, because their talents and achievements once inspired millions of Ukrainians, but now they chose personal gain and peace, forgetting about their compatriots who fight for their lives, freedom and independence every day. Including:

Ani Lorak
The famous Ukrainian singer did not support her country in difficult times. She calls herself a “dove of peace” and continues to perform in Russia, receiving various awards for her work there.

Dzyuba gained popularity as a soloist of the Ukrainian group Artik & Asti, a few months before the start of the war, she announced the start of a solo career. Unlike many Ukrainians who stayed in Russia, Anna did not take a break in her career. Already in the first months of the war, she presented new songs, shot music videos and gave concerts. Anna quickly took the place of Svitlana Loboda, who returned to Ukraine and became the new favorite of Philip Kirkorov. They recorded a duet song together, Anna actively cooperates with Russian federal channels, receiving many awards in Russia.

All these actions of Ukrainian stars are difficult to understand and accept, especially when we see how many Ukrainians are fighting for the freedom and independence of their country. These stories remind us of how important it is to remain loyal to one’s country even in the most difficult times.

At the same time, it is important to remember those stars who not only help Ukraine with their talents, but also joined the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, demonstrating true courage and patriotism. They left behind the stage, the audience and the applause to stand up for the defense of their native land. Including:
