There is no consensus on Ukraine’s Western missile strikes against Russia: Biden

The United States, Germany, Great Britain and France have not reached a single agreement on lifting restrictions on Ukraine’s use of weapons transferred by allies. In particular, Germany continues to adhere to its position against the supply of long-range missiles to Ukraine.

As informs Bloomberg, one of the unnamed senior officials said that German Chancellor Olaf Scholz remains an opponent of Ukraine’s rapid accession to NATO and does not support the transfer of long-range weapons to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

“We support Ukraine as energetically as possible. At the same time, we are making sure that NATO does not become a participant in the war, so that this war does not turn into a much bigger disaster.”, – stressed Scholz at a joint press conference with US President Joe Biden.

Biden, in turn, noted before his departure from Germany that at this time there is no consensus among the allies on allowing Ukraine to use the transferred Western missiles for strikes on the territory of Russia.

On October 18, US President Joe Biden visited Germany, where he held an important meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. During the negotiations, the leaders discussed issues related to the Victory Plan proposed by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi, as well as measures to further help Ukraine in the war with Russia.

Biden emphasized that difficult challenges await Ukraine this winter, and called on allies not to slacken their efforts in supporting the Ukrainian people.
