Trump became the first convicted US president

Donald Trump became the first convicted US president after a New York court announced his sentence in the case of payments to porn actress Stormy Daniels. About this informs The Washington Post.

Judge Juan Mercan upheld the guilty verdict handed down by the jury, but did not impose any punishment, announcing the decision of “unconditional release”. During the announcement of the decision, Merchan emphasized that he took into account Donald Trump’s future performance of the duties of the US president, and any punishment could contradict the principle of presidential immunity.

“The court determined that the only legal sentence without encroachment on the immunity of the highest office in the country is the sentence of unconditional release.” – explained the judge.

Despite his lack of conviction, Trump remains convicted of a felony, becoming the first US president (both current and former) to be convicted of a felony.
