Trump decides to withdraw the US from UNESCO

The United States again terminates its membership in the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). The corresponding decision was made by US President Donald Trump, informs The New York Post.

The head of the White House justified this by the fact that UNESCO, according to him, is pursuing “anti-American and anti-Israel policies” and, according to the position of his administration, is promoting an “awakened” agenda.

In February of this year, Trump ordered a 90-day audit of US participation in UNESCO, with a special emphasis on identifying manifestations of anti-Semitism. After the review was completed, administration officials disagreed with the organization’s policies on inclusion, racial equality and gender transformation.

“President Trump has decided to withdraw the United States from UNESCO, which supports provocative, divisive cultural and social causes that are completely at odds with the common sense Americans voted for in November.” – said Deputy Spokesperson of the White House Anna Kelly.

It will be recalled that the USA already left UNESCO in 1984, when the reason was accusations against the organization of excessive bureaucracy and “anti-American politics”. In 2003, the country resumed its participation in UNESCO under the administration of George W. Bush. In 2017, Donald Trump had already announced his withdrawal, citing the organization’s bias towards Israel and its inefficient management.
