Trump’s call to Putin was a mistake: Radoslaw Sikorski

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland Radoslav Sikorskyi criticized the telephone conversation of US President Donald Trump with Vladimir Putin, calling it a false step. He made such a statement on February 15 during his speech at the Munich Security Conference.
Sikorsky stressed that Vladimir Putin’s Russia remains the main threat to Europe, so high-level contacts with the Kremlin without the proper involvement of allies is a dangerous strategy.
It will be recalled that the telephone conversation between Trump and Putin took place on February 12, the same day the US president also spoke with Volodymyr Zelensky. Trump stated his desire to stop Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, but did not offer specific mechanisms.
“There is nothing more dangerous than an empty guarantee”, – emphasized the Polish minister, reminding that Ukraine already has international security guarantees that could not prevent Russian aggression.
Sikorsky called on the West to continue supporting Ukraine, because without it it will not be able to fight back against Russia, which is waging a “classic colonial war.”
The head of the Polish Foreign Ministry also stated that Europe is in a crisis situation due to excessive trust in long-term peace.
“If Putin can conquer Ukraine, it will be a signal for China…” – warned Sikorsky, stressing that the events in Ukraine can have global consequences, in particular affect the future of Taiwan and the stability of the international system of alliances.
The Munich Security Conference runs from February 14 to 16 and brought together numerous Western leaders, including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi.
