A Tu-22M3 strategic bomber crashed in the Irkutsk region, as a result of which one of the pilots died. This was reported by the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.

According to the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, the plane crashed during a scheduled flight. All four crew members ejected, but one pilot died during the landing. It has been previously established that the cause of the disaster was a technical malfunction. The plane fell in the Usolsky district and hit a power line.

Ihor Kobzev, the governor of the Irkutsk region, confirmed that the plane fell due to a technical malfunction. According to him, the accident occurred near the village of Buret in the Bohansky district during a scheduled flight.

“As a result of the landing, according to the report of the crew, one pilot died. The search and rescue team is evacuating the crew to the place of deployment”, Kobzev noted.

After the fall, a fire started, and the electricity supply disappeared in the surrounding villages. The Tu-22M3 bomber had no combat load at the time of the crash.

We will remind that Tu-22M3 aircraft are taking part in the war against Ukraine, using Kh-22/Kh-32 missiles, in particular against residential buildings and infrastructure objects, which led to numerous victims among the civilian population.
