U.S. oil sanctions against Russia are losing effectiveness: Bloomberg

American oil sanctions against Russia began to lose their effectiveness against the background of US President Donald Trump’s friendly attitude towards Vladimir Putin. About this informs Bloomberg, analyzing the latest data on Russian oil exports.
Russia again began to use tankers that were previously on the sanctions list for oil exports. Some of them were under sanctions for about a year, but in recent days three ships from the “black list” have already loaded and left the port. Satellite images also show that even more ships have started to leave anchorages west of the port of Nakhodka (Far East), where they have been idle since restrictions were imposed.
Crude oil exports from all Russian ports rose by about 300,000 barrels per day in the four weeks to March 9, the biggest four-week increase since January 2023. In total, export volumes reached 3.37 million barrels per day, which was the highest figure since November.
In January 2025, Russia’s revenues from oil exports increased by $1 billion, reaching $15.8 billion. This is due to higher prices for oil and oil products on world markets. Most of the transportation of Russian oil is carried out with the help of the so-called “shadow fleet”. In January, 192 such tankers left Russian ports.
