UK Foreign Office announces EU ministers’ talks on Ukraine

British Foreign Secretary David Lammy announced a meeting with European colleagues on Monday, May 12, to discuss further support for Ukraine and strengthening defense cooperation in the region. This will take place on the eve of the meeting of the Prime Minister of Great Britain, Keir Starmer, with the leaders of the EU, scheduled for May 19. About this informs Reuters.
Lemmy has scheduled talks with representatives of France, Italy, Germany, Spain, Poland and the European Union. A new package of sanctions against Russia is expected to be announced during these discussions.
“We are facing a unique moment for the collective security of our continent. The challenge we face today is not only about the future of Ukraine – it is of existential importance for all of Europe.” – said Lemmy.
The message states that the British minister intends to announce the introduction of new sanctions against structures and individuals that contribute to Russian aggression in Ukraine.
We will remind that on May 10, during a visit to Kyiv, the leaders of the “coalition of the determined” demanded that Russia start an unconditional ceasefire for 30 days from May 12. They warned that in case of refusal, they are ready to resort to new sanctions, which will be agreed between the European Union and the United States. Before announcing this position, they had a joint phone conversation with Donald Trump.
