Ukraine accuses China of supporting Russia: an official letter was sent to diplomats: Politico

The Ukrainian government circulated a letter to diplomats gathered at the UN General Assembly urging them not to support China’s proposed peace plan, which Kiev believes is aimed at protecting Russia’s interests. About this informs edition of Politico, referring to a document that got into their editorial office.
The letter notes that China is actively trying to gain the support of the international community, urging diplomats to support peace talks that take into account the interests of all parties to the conflict and at the same time prevent Russia from losing the war against Ukraine. In particular, Beijing is trying to form a coalition of the countries of Latin America, Asia and Africa, about two dozen states, to create a so-called “core group” of support for its plan, which may expand rapidly in the future.
Politico reports that Ukraine’s concern over China’s actions was so serious that Kyiv decided to distribute this document to the participants of the UN General Assembly in New York to warn them of the possible consequences of supporting the Chinese initiative. The text of the letter does not indicate where Ukraine received information about this plan of Beijing.
Earlier, on May 23, the governments of China and Brazil concluded an agreement that offers political negotiations to settle the war between Russia and Ukraine, reports CNN Brasil. This plan includes calls for restraint in the conduct of hostilities, the prevention of escalation of the conflict and the avoidance of provocations by either side.
China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said its joint initiative with Brazil has received approval from more than 110 countries. However, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky sharply criticized this proposal, calling it a destructive political statement that was developed without consultation with Kyiv.
