Ukraine and Belgium agreed to expand the MEDEVAC medical program

Prime Ministers of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal and Belgium Bart de Wever during a meeting on Thursday Agreed on the expansion of the “MEDEVAC” medical program, which covers the treatment and rehabilitation of Ukrainian citizens.

“Belgium provided Ukraine with medical aid worth over UAH 36 million and accepts Ukrainians for treatment and rehabilitation under the MEDEVAC program. During our visit, the government teams of the countries agreed on its expansion.”Shmyhal said.

The heads of government discussed the development of the health care sector. During the working visit of the Ukrainian delegation to Brussels, several documents aimed at strengthening this industry were signed. In particular, a technical agreement was concluded with the Federal Public Health Service of the Kingdom of Belgium. It provides assistance to persons affected by the war, their rehabilitation, as well as the restoration of medical infrastructure.

The parties paid special attention to the implementation of the previous agreements reached in Kyiv between the President of Ukraine and the Prime Minister of Belgium regarding the cooperation of defense companies of the two countries and the expansion of joint production.

“Implementation of these initiatives creates a basis for a long-term strategic partnership and opens up new opportunities for innovation, exchange of experience and integration of Ukraine into European industry”, Shmyhal emphasized.

The premiers touched on the topic of Ukraine’s European integration, the results already achieved on this path, and the next steps. Shmyhal emphasized Ukraine’s efforts in reforming state institutions and bringing legislation into line with EU norms.
