Ukraine has ensured independence from the Russian Federation in the repair of Mi-8MTV helicopters

The State Aviation Service of Ukraine has approved changes to special airworthiness requirements for Mi-8MTV helicopters, which allow them to be repaired without involving the Russian manufacturer, which has been under sanctions since 2022. About this reported press service of the department.

According to the updates, the Instruction for Maintenance of Repair Documentation for Mi-8MTV helicopters has been implemented. It unifies approaches to maintenance for all Ukrainian operators in the field of civil aviation.

“This makes it possible to repair the Mi-8MTV type helicopter (airframe, systems and components), which will ensure the further safe operation of the entire fleet of helicopters registered in the State Register of Civil Aircraft of Ukraine”, the message says.

As emphasized by the State Aviation Service, this decision is of key importance for the continued participation of Ukrainian airlines in UN programs for the provision of civil aviation services. Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the State Aviation Service of Ukraine has taken measures aimed at ousting Russian operators from the UN air services market. This contributed to the increase in the volume of aviation works performed by Ukrainian operators under contracts with the UN — currently their share is 42% of the total volume.

At the same time, the State Aviation Service never had reference operational and technical and repair documentation for helicopters of the Mi-8MTV type, which was previously accompanied by JSC “National Helicopter Construction Center named after M.L. Mil and M.I. Kamov”.
