UN asks for $47 billion in humanitarian aid in 2025

The United Nations has requested $47 billion in humanitarian aid by 2025. It will be aimed at supporting people affected by armed conflicts and famine. It is reported Reuters.

The new head of UN humanitarian aid, Tom Fletcher, called the situation an “unprecedented level of suffering”. In 2025, the organization plans to provide assistance to residents of 32 countries, including Ukraine, Sudan, Syria and Haiti, where military conflicts continue.

“We need to reset our relationship with those most in need on the planet”, – noted Fletcher.

For 2024, the UN reduced the request for humanitarian aid to 46 billion dollars, compared to 56 billion last year. Despite this, funding covers only 43% of needs, one of the worst figures in history. The lion’s share of funds, more than 10 billion dollars, was allocated by Washington.

According to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, insufficient funding forces humanitarian workers to make painful choices. For example, in Syria, food aid was cut by 80%, and in Yemen, which is struggling with cholera, water supply was reduced.
