UN increases cash aid ahead of winter: who can count on support

Ukraine has launched a new phase of cash assistance from the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), which has expanded the list of recipient categories. This was reported by the Ministry of Social Policy of Ukraine.

The updated list of those who will be able to benefit from this assistance includes people without the right to a pension, adults and children with disabilities who simultaneously meet the following criteria

  • live in areas where hostilities are ongoing or may resume;
  • Receive social payments of less than UAH 3,250 per month;
  • do not receive support for living expenses as internally displaced persons;
  • do not receive targeted financial assistance from other international organisations.

The amount of financial support will be determined as the difference between UAH 3,250 and the amount of existing state social assistance that a person already receives.

The programme will run for 6 months, and the total amount of funds allocated by WFP for its implementation exceeds UAH 284 million.

Payments are transferred to the recipient’s bank account or through targeted delivery by Ukrposhta. Transfers to bank accounts have already begun, and payments through Ukrposhta will start in a few weeks.

The Ministry of Social Policy notes that the list of recipients will be formed on the basis of state registers, so no additional applications are required.

As a reminder, in August 2023, the Ministry of Social Policy, together with the WFP, initiated payments for low-income pensioners living in areas of active or potential hostilities. More than 400,000 Ukrainian pensioners receive assistance every month. From February to April 2024, the programme was expanded to include people with childhood disabilities and children with disabilities.
