Updated the content of the “Baby Package”: what will be in the box now

For several years, Ukrainian families in which a baby appears will receive the so-called “Baby Packages” – boxes with clothes, diapers, hygiene products and toys. Previously, parents often complained about the not entirely practical contents of the package. This year, the authorities took into account the wishes of parents and revised the contents of the baby box.

What’s new in the “Baby Package”

A survey of parents who had previously received Baby Packs revealed that the box had too many clothes in the smallest size. Its quantity was reduced and replaced with other necessary things. In total, the baby box contains more than 90 items of products for babies from birth to one year.

“We added goods that are in demand, for example, reusable moisture-resistant diapers, warm things. We also increased the size of the blanket-blanket and reduced the number of small-sized clothes. The first three thousand updated “Baby Packages” have already arrived in territorial communities. In the conditions of the war, we kept this program, and Ukrainian manufacturers and suppliers of children’s goods have volunteered to continue participating in it. It is difficult for all of us now, so this support is important for many families,” he says Ulyana Tokareva, Deputy Minister of Social Policy.

The book “From birth to year” was added to the updated baby package. This is a guide for parents of babies, developed and printed with the support of UNICEF.

How to get monetary compensation for “Baby Package”

If desired, parents can refuse the baby box and receive monetary compensation. At the same time, the funds will be deposited into a special account and can be spent only in a specified list of stores and pharmacies for the purchase of goods for children (clothing, baby food, napkins, diapers and other hygiene products).

The amount of monetary compensation must be at least three times the subsistence minimum for children under 6 years of age. In 2024, this is about 7.7 thousand hryvnias.

In order to receive funds, parents must apply to the executive body of the village, settlement council or the center for the provision of administrative services no later than 12 months after the birth of the child.

List of required documents:

  • a certificate from the maternity hospital about non-receipt of the baby’s package;
  • application for the appointment of monetary compensation for the cost of one-time in-kind assistance “Baby Package”;
  • a copy of the child’s birth certificate or a document confirming the fact of the child’s birth in/outside the health care facility;
