Prime Minister of Moldova Dorin Rechan instructed the government to start the process of preparing for the nationalization of the gas company «Moldovagaz», half of which is owned by Russia’s «Gazprom». About this informs Reuters. Rechan instructed the Minister of Justice to develop legislative changes that would allow this step to be implemented. Currently, 50% of Moldovagaz shares belong to Gazprom, another 13% to Russian-controlled Transnistria, and 35.6% are owned by the Moldovan government. «We must act in strategic sectors. By the way, these objects were also taken from us once. And we must return them to state ownership.» — noted Rechan, referring to the ownership structure that existed at the time of the company’s creation in 2013. Earlier, Gazprom announced the suspension of gas supplies to Moldova’s Transnistria from January 1, 2025 due to «non-fulfillment of payment obligations». On December 28, the Russian company sent an official notice to «Moldovagaz» about its intention, accusing the company of «regular non-fulfillment of the terms of the contract.» The Prime Minister of Moldova condemned this decision, stressing that the country is ready to deal with any challenges that may arise due to the actions of the Kremlin. He also did not rule out recourse to international arbitration to resolve the situation. Rechan emphasized that Moldova is already working on diversification of energy supply sources and is able to meet its needs even if supplies from Russia stop.

Russia has postponed the launch of one of its largest scientific projects, the Siberian Ring Photon Source (SKDF). By order of the government, instead of the planned date of December 31, the commissioning has now been postponed for a year. This is reported by rosZMI. Governor of Novosibirsk region Andrii Travnikov explained the delay as the influence of «sanction pressure». According to him, the withdrawal of foreign partners from the project forced Russian scientists to develop a number of systems from scratch, as access to the necessary foreign equipment turned out to be limited. This is the second postponement of the SKDF launch: initially it was planned for 2023. The idea of creating this complex near Novosibirsk was proposed back in 2018, including it in the national project «Science and Universities». The project was conceived as a technological breakthrough, which, according to Russian President Vladimir Putin, should make every second company in the country innovative. SKDF was called the world’s first source of synchrotron radiation with an energy of 3 gigaelectron volts. His stations were to be used to decipher the structure of biopolymers, study living organisms, genetic information transmission mechanisms, and develop new materials. More than 47 billion rubles were allocated for the implementation of the project. However, even with this financial investment, the impact of sanctions and technological isolation made its completion much more difficult.

The order applies not only to festive events within schools, but also to field events, excursions and New Year’s programs outside educational institutions. All such activities must be agreed in advance with the school administration or their principals. The purpose of this decision, as noted, is to emphasize «national identity» by rejecting Western cultural influences.

On December 30, US President Joe Biden announced the provision of security assistance to Ukraine in the amount of almost 2.5 billion dollars. About this it is said in a statement from the White House. «Today, I am proud to announce the allocation of nearly $2.5 billion in security assistance to Ukraine as the Ukrainian people continue to defend their independence and freedom from Russian aggression.» Biden noted. The new aid package includes funds both for immediate use at the front and for long-term strengthening of Ukraine’s defense capabilities. Among the equipment provided are air defense systems, artillery installations and other important types of weapons. According to the President of the United States, $1.25 billion of the allocated amount is earmarked for the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and another $1.22 billion is earmarked for the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI). Biden announced that the Pentagon has already used all the funds allocated by Congress for the USAI program in April. Hundreds of thousands of artillery shells, thousands of rockets and hundreds of armored vehicles are currently being delivered. This should strengthen the position of Ukraine on the eve of winter.
