Prime Minister of Moldova Dorin Rechan instructed the government to start the process of preparing for the nationalization of the gas company «Moldovagaz», half of which is owned by Russia’s «Gazprom». About this informs Reuters. Rechan instructed the Minister of Justice to develop legislative changes that would allow this step to be implemented. Currently, 50% of Moldovagaz shares belong to Gazprom, another 13% to Russian-controlled Transnistria, and 35.6% are owned by the Moldovan government. «We must act in strategic sectors. By the way, these objects were also taken from us once. And we must return them to state ownership.» — noted Rechan, referring to the ownership structure that existed at the time of the company’s creation in 2013. Earlier, Gazprom announced the suspension of gas supplies to Moldova’s Transnistria from January 1, 2025 due to «non-fulfillment of payment obligations». On December 28, the Russian company sent an official notice to «Moldovagaz» about its intention, accusing the company of «regular non-fulfillment of the terms of the contract.» The Prime Minister of Moldova condemned this decision, stressing that the country is ready to deal with any challenges that may arise due to the actions of the Kremlin. He also did not rule out recourse to international arbitration to resolve the situation. Rechan emphasized that Moldova is already working on diversification of energy supply sources and is able to meet its needs even if supplies from Russia stop.

«Мы должны действовать в стратегических секторах. Кстати, эти объекты у нас тоже когда-то отобрали. И мы должны вернуть их в государственную собственность», – отметил Речан, ссылаясь на структуру собственности, которая существовала на момент создания компании в 2013 году.
Ранее «Газпром» заявил о прекращении поставок газа в молдавское Приднестровье с 1 января 2025 года из-за «невыполнения платежных обязательств». Российская компания 28 декабря направила официальное сообщение «Молдовагаз» о своем намерении, обвинив компанию в «регулярном невыполнении условий контракта».
Премьер-министр Молдовы осудил это решение, отметив, что страна готова справиться с любыми вызовами, которые могут возникнуть из-за действий Кремля. диверсификация источников снабжения энергоносителей и способна обеспечить свои потребности даже в случае прекращения поставок из России.
