The President of North Korea, Kim Jong-un, said that his country will continue to support the Russian Federation in the war against Ukraine. This was reported by the agency on February 9 Reuters.
The leader of the DPRK also criticized the trilateral military cooperation between the United States of America, Japan and South Korea, accusing these states of creating a «military imbalance in the region.» He emphasized that his country would develop nuclear forces in response.
Speaking on February 8 during a visit to the Ministry of Defense on the occasion of the founding day of the army, Kim Jong-un said that the DPRK does not seek to unnecessarily escalate the situation in the region, but will take countermeasures to protect its own interests, including further expansion of its nuclear arsenal.
Regarding Russia’s war against Ukraine, the North Korean leader confirmed his unwavering support for Moscow.
«The army and people of the DPRK will always support and approve the fair struggle of the Russian army and people for the protection of their sovereignty, security and territorial integrity,» — said Kim Jong Un.
He noted that such support is carried out in accordance with the agreement between the DPRK and Russia on «comprehensive strategic partnership».
We will remind, in the context of the policy of the newly elected US President Donald Trump regarding North Korea, he previously declared his desire to restore relations with Kim Jong Un and called him a «smart man». Trump has also recognized North Korea as a nuclear power, contradicting the traditional position of the White House, which has refused to recognize the status of North Korea.
It was previously reported that North Korean troops are participating in hostilities on the territory of the Kursk region together with the Russian military. According to the 47th separate mechanized brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, they are conducting joint assault operations. It became known on February 8.
