Вэнс заявил, что Европа отошла от общих ценностей с США
US Vice President JD Vance said that Europe has retreated from the values shared by Washington. In particular, it is about democracy and freedom of speech, which is increasingly restricted in the EU. This statement sounded at the Munich Security Conference.
«The threat that worries me most about Europe is not Russia, not China, not any other external factor. What worries me is the threat from within — the retreat of Europe from some of its most important values, values that the United States shares.» — said Vance.
According to him, the administration of President Donald Trump is concerned about European security, and freedom of speech in Great Britain and throughout the EU is retreating.
«We have been told for years that we are sponsoring the defense of democracy, but when we see how European courts overturn election results, and top officials threaten to overturn others, we have to ask ourselves — do we live up to our own high standards of democracy?» — emphasized the vice president.
In particular, he mentioned the cancellation of the first round of presidential elections in Romania in December 2024.
«There is no safety if you are afraid of the voices, thoughts and consciences of your own people. If you run afraid of your own voters, America can do nothing for you. You need democratic mandates to achieve anything of value in the coming years.» — emphasized Vance.
